Speech Therapy
Our Process
Areas of Focus
- Speech Disorders: Assisting individuals in producing sounds clearly and effectively communicating their thoughts and ideas.
- Language Disorders: Supporting both the comprehension and expression of language, including spoken and written forms, to enhance communication skills.
- Social Communication Disorders: Helping individuals understand and utilize appropriate verbal and nonverbal communication in social settings, fostering stronger relationships.
- Cognitive-Communication Disorders: Addressing difficulties related to memory, attention, problem-solving, and organization, often caused by conditions such as brain injury or dementia.
As a non-medical facility, we do not address swallowing issues. Any concerns related to swallowing would be referred out to appropriate medical specialists for further evaluation.
Comprehensive Pediatric Speech-Language Evaluation
At Developmental & Educational Psychological Services (DEPS), our Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Evaluation Battery provides a comprehensive assessment of a child’s speech and communication abilities.
Evaluation Components
A thorough pediatric speech and communication evaluation examines multiple key areas, including:
- Speech Sound Production – Assessing articulation, phonology, and clarity of speech.
- Language Skills – Evaluating both expressive (spoken) and receptive (understood) language abilities.
- Fluency – Identifying disruptions in the flow of speech, such as stuttering.
- Voice & Resonance – Examining vocal quality, pitch, and volume.
- Pragmatic (Social) Communication – Assessing a child’s ability to use language appropriately in social situations.
- Oral-Motor Function – Evaluating the strength, coordination, and movement of the muscles used for speech.
Individualized Assessment for Each Child
The specific assessments used in the evaluation are carefully selected based on the child’s age, presenting concerns, and suspected diagnoses. This individualized approach ensures a comprehensive understanding of each child’s unique strengths and challenges, allowing for targeted intervention strategies that support effective communication.
