ADHD

Identification of ADHD

At Developmental & Educational Psychological Services (DEPS), we provide comprehensive and objective assessments to accurately determine whether you or your child meet the criteria for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Our evaluations assess key areas such as attention regulation, impulsivity, executive functioning, and hyperactivity to ensure an accurate diagnosis.

ADHD is a highly treatable condition, and early identification can lead to effective interventions that improve academic performance, social interactions, emotional regulation, and daily functioning. Based on assessment results, we develop a personalized treatment plan that may include behavioral strategies, executive functioning coaching, school accommodations, and referrals for additional therapeutic support when necessary. With the right support, individuals with ADHD can harness their strengths, build essential skills, and thrive in their everyday lives

What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects millions of children worldwide and often continues into adulthood. Individuals with ADHD who do not receive appropriate identification or treatment are at increased risk for the following:

  • Chronic stress
  • A higher risk of stress-related diseases
  • Low self-esteem
  • Underachievement
  • Anxiety and depression

There are three types of ADHD:

  • Primarily Inattentive: The person has difficulty paying attention but does not tend to be disruptive.
  • Primarily Hyperactive and Impulsive: The person may be able to focus well, but their hyperactive and impulsive behavior can cause disruptions.
  • Combined Inattentive, Hyperactive, and Impulsive.

Common Symptoms

  • Difficulty sitting still
  • Restless
  • Often described as “on the go” or “driven by a motor”
  • Constantly talking
  • Difficulty taking turns
  • Interrupting others

ADHD Evaluation Process

At Developmental & Educational Psychological Services (DEPS), we offer a comprehensive and objective ADHD evaluation to accurately diagnose Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children and adults. ADHD is a highly treatable condition, and early identification allows for effective intervention strategies tailored to each individual’s needs. Our evaluation process goes beyond subjective measures and self-reports, incorporating a variety of evidence-based assessment tools for a thorough and accurate diagnosis.

Our Approach

We utilize the Test of Variables of Attention (T.O.V.A.), an FDA-cleared, computerized assessment that objectively measures attention and inhibitory control. The T.O.V.A. is normed by gender for individuals ages 4 to 80+, providing reliable data to support an accurate diagnosis. This tool is instrumental in assessing attention deficits and evaluating treatment effectiveness.

Additionally, DEPS offers Cogmed Working Memory Training, a research-backed intervention designed to improve working memory—a critical cognitive function often impaired in individuals with ADHD. Cogmed training has been shown to enhance attention, impulse control, and executive functioning skills.

By combining objective assessments with targeted interventions, DEPS ensures individuals with ADHD receive the support and resources necessary to thrive. Contact us today to learn more about our ADHD evaluation and treatment options.
